Federer eyes title as Murray, Djokovic exit Wimbledon

He grimaced as he stumbled or landed awkwardly while attempting shots.

"We both had a very long, very tough year, a lot of matches, a lot of emotions, a lot of things in play", Djokovic said, referring to 2016. All seemed comfortable for Murray until, at 5-4, the home favourite lapsed and allowed Querrey back in. A day earlier, during his fourth-round match, Djokovic had his right shoulder worked on by a trainer. But he lost 12 of the last 13 games and would eventually succumb 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-1.

Roger Federer wished a speedy recovery for Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray after the pair's struggles with injuries hastened their elimination from Wimbledon. It was now less obvious how Murray was going to dampen down this piledriver.

Murray is normally a terrific returner, but Querrey hit 27 aces. I just hope he can recover quickly and get ready for America really, or Canada for that matter. "So he was dictating all of the points".

"The US Open is six, seven weeks away, so I'll sit down with my team tomorrow and come up with the plan for what I have to do next".

It is the second year in a row that the 29-year-old Californian upset the defending champion and top-seeded man at the All England Club.

HANDY ANDY What time is Andy Murray against Sam Querrey today, what TV channel is the men's quarter-final on? The suit claims coach Hugh Freeze and other school officials created a "false narrative" in an effort to place primary blame on Nutt for the NCAA investigation instead of Freeze.

The hip, though, was a problem this time.

Yet having said all that, had he held one crucial service game against Querrey, he might well have got himself this in straight sets and lived to hobble another day. Querrey under pressure couldn't pinpoint his first serve and, worse, missed an easy smash.

That game was the eighth of the second set, the opener won 6-3 without hitting third gear.

It was the first time Murray had lost a match at Wimbledon after winning the first set since his 2012 defeat to Federer in the final. Last year, he saw off Djokovic in the third round. Names who have been kicking around for a few years have pulled off stunning and - crucially - entertaining victories, with Caroline Wozniacki, Agnieszka Radwanska and Angelique Kerber all involved in three-set epics.

Murray was further lauded on social media for his response. Two years ago, he appeared on the reality TV show "The Millionaire Matchmaker". You know, there's a little more on the line.

Now Querrey's on-court accomplishment Wednesday will make headlines.

"As the match kept going, I just felt more and more confident, more and more like I belonged", said the 24th seed.
