Android O release date might be this coming August 21

The beta testing of Android O was finished last month, and it is time for the final product to be distributed to the public.

A new report suggests that the new Android 8.0 version should debut on 21 August. Both are devices are rumored to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip (SoC). The first devices that received the updates back then were Nexus 6, General Mobile 4G and Pixel C. As surprising as it is, Google's phone Pixel will receive its Android O later than the other phones. Every major version of Android since Cupcake has been dubbed some kind of treat and it has become somewhat of a tradition to try and guess the dessert ahead of time. While it does lead to suspicions of an Android Octopus name, but we doubt if Google seriously wants to drop the sweets and go towards the animal kingdom. As with each version of Android, it will take some time for the newest build to trickle down from its launch hardware and onto more handsets and tablets. Whatever it ends up being called, Android O will introduce a bevy of new features, including a picture-in-picture mode used mostly for video playback, a redesigned notifications systems, an auto-fill feature to more quickly log into services, and so forth.

Android Things Developer Preview 5 updates the platform to be based on Android O as opposed to the previous Android N. The latest release brings into play the latest API 26 that developers now need to target for the support libraries.
