"Difficult but nice": Singapore Grand Prix

The Briton, who seized the overall lead from title-rival Vettel after leading Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas to a one-two finish in Monza, is expecting a less straightforward weekend in Singapore.

In the session the last 90 minutes, Ricciardo registered the fastest lap (1:42.489) during his second flying lap on his second set of ultra-soft tyres. "I knew we had it in us but we had to get there".

"Our understanding of the car will potentially help this weekend, but you never really know where you are going to be able to place the car", Hamilton said.

Jolyon Palmer was adamant on Thursday that he will see out the remainder of his Renault contract despite reports that he is set to be replaced by Carlos Sainz at the next round in Malaysia.

Verstappen added: "The car was working pretty well - of course, it can always be better in terms of balance, but if we compare it to our competitors, we looked very strong". Going into the last race at Monza, the home track of Scuderia Ferrari, Ferrari's team principal Maurizio Arrivabene acknowledged that Monza was not the track most suited to his cars.

Mercedes have been on pole in 66 of the last 71 races.

The race is also an opportunity for Vettel to infuse fresh life into his title bid. Formula One is Bringing the heat! "Seb turned it on in qualifying but I'm looking forward to tomorrow", said the Australian.

As aptly explained by ESPN, Vettel would be eager to reclaim the FIA World Championship lead after losing the top spot to Hamilton at the Italian Grand Prix.

The F1 legend, who is among the most famous former Ferrari drivers, is now the chairman and co-owner of the Mercedes team. Lewis Hamilton has been on the top of the podium twice around the Marina Bay circuit.

The four-time champion was clearly ecstatic to snatch the pole after a difficult start to qualifying which saw him down on pace.

Ericsson recovered to the pits in search of a new rear wing, but the marshals needed just under 10 minutes to sweep away the debris from the accident.

"Now, I don't think that's a pattern you can't break".

Bottas who has also driven Williams is entering his fifth season in Formula One.

"We will approach it with healthy scepticism, leave no stone unturned and aim to deliver every bit of performance that we can".

Team-mate Sebastian Vettel was 11th, although the German failed to complete a representative low-fuel lap. "It's not the first time and it's only Friday. I'm not used to a different situation".
